The UAC & Snowbird Freeride Avalanche Summit

This past December I had the chance to take the Utah Avalanche Center & Snowbird Free Ride Avalanche Summit. The two day course was geared towards advanced and professional riders looking to refresh or soak up some very valuable avey knowledge taught by some of best forecasters guides and pro riders in the nation. I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the course and can only help spread the awareness and encourage any one who already travels in the back country or is thinking about riding out of bounds to take a avey course or read up on avalanches because having a beacon, shovel and probe doesn’t mean shit. You need to know how to use these tools and understand the terrain your traveling in as well as being able to recognized all the red flags. This knowledge can save your life as well as your homies. Injured Riders Foundation Donation

This past season I donated some photos to the Injured Riders Foundation. This foundation was started by SNOWREV founder Johnny Centi after experiencing a serious back injury. Having no health insurance and no extra funds for surgery while dealing with our countries ridiculous health care system various health insurance providers showed no support or help for his situation. After going through all this he wanted to show support and help people who have hurt themselves participating in action sports like snowboarding, skateboarding, climbing and surfing.
I have been involved with SNOWREV and worked closely with Johnny since 2006, remembering back then he was always talking about starting this foundation. I’m stoked for Johnny and to finally see the IRF picking up speed launching a new site and recently receiving the 501(c)(3) status ableing them to start accepting tax deductible donations.
I know the IRF will really change riders lives having almost been in a situation were I would have needed help like this. In 2006 I severely blew my knee out snowboarding having to have major surgery and extensive physical therapy. For the whole season of 05/06 I was snowboarding, skateboarding and snowmobiling with out health insurance and luckily a WEEK before I blew out my knee I had signed up to be covered. Waiting to sign up a week later I would have found my self with over $50,000 in medical bills. This is great foundation and I’m glad to be contributing even if its only my photos. A Colorful Perspective

On a recent trip back to my old stomping grounds I had a chance to help my sixteen year old sister Ashley complete a project for her 10th grade photography 1 class. I tried to get her to start looking at everyday things from a different perspective while noticing the small details and composing the object in a unique ways. This was the final collage for her project.
All Roads Lead To: Valdez Alaska

Going up to Alaska for 14 days this past April was definitely the highlight of my season. Valdez and Thompson pass has to be one of the most amazing places I have ever been. The things I learned and experiences I had blew away any thing else I have ever done in my 13 years of snowboarding. My only regrets being not snowboarding as much as I would have liked and not being able riding a true AK line for myself. But every one I shot sure got some and more. I was stoked to just watch, shoot and have the chance to be in this incredible place. Hopefully someday I will make it up there again!

Man Game with CIIAIR

This is a pretty funny photo set I shot earlier this yea for my buddies clothing company CIIAIR. These photos are all about the reactions deep in an intense session of the Man Game. I had never heard of it or played before but the rules are: Sit a table with a couple of beverages, light a firework on the table and who ever last sitting down the longest wins. That alone should give a small insight on how these characters live.

” Cody Rosenthal recently broke his L3 vertebrae on day two of Super Park 09. He was flown out of Mammoth Lakes Hospital to Renown Hospital in Reno and is currently in ICU. Two Days at Powder Mtn with Rossi

Recently put together a solid two day trip up to Powder Mountain, Utah with the Rossi Crew. With some help from POUCH we scored a hill side condo and shredded some all time deliciously deep conditions. Really stoked how everything turned out. So far one of best mini trips all season.

CllAIR Out Takes

I recently headed down south to shoot my homies new clothing company CIIAIR in Newport. CIIAIR is a solid hand sewn surf vs skate inspired, rider driven company. From what I hear they are becoming a pretty big deal around the beach area and planning a massive full blow attack on the industry down there.
For just some what of a test shoot we packed quite a punch in about 3 hour time frame getting in three locations while battling a sketchy marsh, college art building and some crazy fireworks. Pretty stoked on the results and can’t wait to finish everything up with them. For more info check CIIAIR.COM

Hot Dawgz and Handrails…. Well pretty much same thing (except for the jump) different year. I have gone to every single one of these…… So for the last five years I have spent Sept 15th in Big Bear. This year was definitely the biggest as far as people goes but this year it was hard for me to get into it. I was most stoked on these crowd surfing photos than anything else I took…..ha. Photo Books Slide and 32 Day Winter

I just ordered my copy of SLIDE the new 10 year photo book from a photographer I really enjoy, Rob Mathis. Rob is a true OG and started shooting some of the most influential riders today right when they were just getting started. This book takes you back to the Forum Resistance days, early Brighton photos and new stuff from the 2007 season. When it comes to urban photography none compare to Rob in my book. I will post up some photos when I get the book… Can’t wait to see all that’s in there!
Go buy Rob’s book SLIDE and Blotto and Jeff Curtes Burton photo book 32 DAY WINTER which is also a great hardback coffee table style print.
Its all about showing your support to these hardworking photographers! These dudes are in the trenches year round busting there ass and freezing their fingers off to get these shots. Nobody really realizes what all goes into getting the images you flip through in each mag.
